At the beginning of May, with warm breezes caressing the face, Hefei Gaoxin Changqing School welcomed the Singapore education delegation.

On the morning of May 10, 2024, a 19-member Singapore education delegation, consisting of Deputy Director Lim Mei Jun and Assistant Director Wu Shi Wei from the Curriculum Planning and Development Division of Singapore’s Ministry of Education, Dr. Guo Xiu Fen, Chief Special Educationist at the Singapore Teachers’ Academy, Deputy Directors Zheng Bao Hua and Yao Dao Xing from the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board, and Dr. Cai Zhi Li, President of the Singapore Association for Artificial Intelligence in Language Education, visited Hefei Gaoxin Changqing School for in-depth inspection and exchange. They discussed how to make Chinese language learning more effective and interesting in the era of artificial intelligence. Hefei Gaoxin Changqing School is also the only international school visited by the Singapore education delegation during this trip.

01.Language Evaluation System

In the computer classroom of Changqing School, all the distinguished guests of the delegation enthusiastically experienced Changqing School’s Chinese and English evaluation system. This testing system not only includes various question types such as multiple-choice questions and fill-in-the-blank questions, but also applies speech recognition and speech synthesis technologies to oral tests. It combines language teaching with modern technology, making language testing more accurate and vivid.

The first session is the Poetry and Music class. Teacher Wang Ziwei leads the second-grade students to learn ancient poems through chanting. The second session is the Chinese Characters class. Teacher Zhao Guangcai uses multimedia interactive teaching to lead the students to understand Chinese characters through the evolution process from oracle bone inscriptions, bronze inscriptions to regular script. Each unfamiliar Chinese character instantly becomes vivid. This class not only allows students to understand the evolution of the structure of Chinese characters but also enables them to deeply comprehend the profound meanings behind each Chinese character. This vivid and intuitive teaching method has effectively stimulated students’ interest in learning Chinese characters and deepened their understanding of the beauty of Chinese writing.

04.Classical Literature Class

Teacher Yang Fenghua’s classical literature class begins with the melodious sound of the guqin, instantly drawing the classroom atmosphere into a tranquil and profound literary world. “A mountain doesn’t need to be high; it becomes famous if there’s a immortal. A lake doesn’t need to be deep; it becomes spiritual if there’s a dragon…” With her highly emotional recitation, Teacher Yang leads everyone present to travel through time and space, directly to the simple yet philosophically rich “humble room” depicted by Liu Yuxi. In such a class, students are not only learning ancient poetry and prose but also immersively experiencing and perceiving the emotional world of ancient poets, and appreciating the timeless artistic conception in the poems.
