I. Activity Purpose

To promote the culture of reading Chinese publications on campus and cultivate students’ habits of reading Chinese books. The competition aims to enable students to experience the joy of reading in Chinese, stimulate their interest in learning the Chinese language, and thereby explore the richness of Chinese language and culture.

IV. Eligibility

Participation is open only to currently enrolled primary and secondary school students who are Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents (excluding students in pre-university or junior college levels).

Students may register independently with parental consent. School nomination is not required.

The organisers reserve the right to disqualify any participant who does not meet the eligibility requirements.

V. Important Dates

Registration Period: 20 March 2026 to 20 May 2026

Preliminary Round Reading Period: 20 March 2026 to 22 May 2026

Preliminary Round (Online Multiple-Choice Questions): Saturday, May 23, 2026.

Final Round Reading Period: 28 May 2026 to 3 July 2026

Final Round (On-site Competition): Saturday, 4 July 2026

VI. Competition Groups

The competition is divided into five groups according to grade levels.

Students must register for the competition according to the group corresponding to their current grade level.

Group A: Primary 1 and 2 students.

Group B: Primary 3 and 4 students.

Group C: Primary 5 and 6 students.

Group D: Secondary 1 and 2 students.

Group E: Students from Secondary 3, 4 and 5.

VII. Registration Instructions

Please ensure that all student information is entered accurately during registration.

Please enter the participant’s name based on the English name printed on the student identity card.

The competition password should be set as the last three digits of the student’s ID number followed by the final letter.

Example: 123A

Participants should not create any other passwords.

Students are encouraged to register early. Once the maximum number of participants is reached, the system will close registration automatically.

No requests for supplementary participation will be accepted if students fail to compete for any reason.

VIII. Required Reading Materials for the Competition

Each group is provided with a designated competition reading list.

Please refer to the official competition website for the relevant information.

Students participating in the preliminary round may freely access e-books on their designated reading list via the official competition website from 20 March to 22 May 2026.

Students advancing to the final round may browse e-books from their group reading list as well as one additional book free of charge via the official competition website between 28 May and 3 July 2026.

Students may also purchase printed copies of the required reading materials or borrow them from libraries or other available sources.

IX. Competition Questions

Both the preliminary and final competition questions are multiple-choice questions.

All competition questions are based on the content of the reading materials for the respective category.

An additional book will be included in the final round questions, and students who advance to the final round may access it free of charge via the official competition website.

X. Competition Rules

The competition consists of two rounds: the Preliminary Round and the Final Round.

To ensure that the competition is conducted fairly and smoothly, all participating students must abide by the competition rules.

(I) Preliminary Round Instructions

The preliminary round will be held on 23 May 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

On the competition day, participating students should log in to the official competition website:https://www.chinesereadingcontest.com

Students must complete the online competition within the above time period according to their registered category.

(II) Competition Details

Each question comes with a fixed time limit for answering. Failure to respond within the time limit will result in the system automatically moving to the next question.

During the quiz, participants are strictly prohibited from browsing other websites, referring to books, or seeking help from others.

The competition system is equipped with an AI anti-cheating detection function.

Any unusual on-screen activities during the competition, such as opening new files or switching browser windows, may be identified as cheating by the AI detection system.

The system may shut down automatically after issuing a warning, and the participant’s competition qualification will be revoked.

If the competition page is closed intentionally or accidentally during the contest, participants may be unable to resume the competition.

All participating students are requested to pay close attention to these regulations.

(III) Results and Promotion

Eligibility for the final round will be comprehensively evaluated by AI based on students’ answer accuracy and number of questions completed.

The top 30 students with the best performance in each group will qualify for the final round.

The official website will release the list of students who have successfully advanced to the final within one week after the competition ends.

All decisions made by the judges are final, and no appeals will be entertained.

(IV) Final Competition Instructions

Date: 4 July 2026

Venue: Nanyang Girls’ High School

Time: 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

In addition to the original designated reading materials, one additional book will be included in the final round examination questions.

After learning about their qualification for the final on the official website, students may access the contest website from 28 May 2026 to 3 July 2026 to read the newly added book assigned to their respective group free of charge.

On the morning of the final day, students must attend in their school uniform and bring identity documents for verification.

Further details regarding the final will be announced on the official competition website.

The award ceremony will generally be held on the same day immediately after the final round.

XI. Competition Awards

All eligible participating students will receive:

• an electronic participation certificate
 • an electronic bookmark

Students who successfully advance to the final and attend the on-site competition will be awarded:

Certificates of Merit
 • Commemorative medals

Students who achieve outstanding results in the final round will be awarded:

• certificates
 • medals
 • cash prizes
