Recently, the Association for Research on AI in Learning and Leadership (ARAILL) and the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The two parties will carry out comprehensive and in-depth educational and research cooperation focusing on two core areas: Design AI and AI in Education, working together to advance the development of the AI education ecosystem.

Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) has long been committed to cultivating talented leaders and innovators with solid technical capabilities and a strong sense of social responsibility. It achieves this through interdisciplinary curricula and cutting-edge research that integrate design and artificial intelligence. As a locally registered non-profit academic organisation in Singapore, ARAILL dedicates itself to advancing the application of AI in learning and leadership development, while actively connecting educators, educational institutions and industry partners.
This collaboration marks the beginning of a new chapter in AI education, with both sides leveraging their strengths in academic research, curriculum development, and international networks to drive innovation.
In-Depth Collaboration: Building a New AI Education Ecosystem Holistically
Under the terms of the MOU, ARAILL and SUTD will pursue multi-faceted cooperation across the following areas:
Sino-Singapore Joint Education Programmes: Launch high-level joint academic programmes, primarily postgraduate master’s programmes adopting a 1 year in China + 1 year in Singapore study track, to offer students pathways for international academic advancement and broaden their global perspectives.
Academic Exchange & Research Collaboration: Jointly conduct academic research, exchange activities and educational innovation initiatives in the field of AI education.
Joint Curriculum & Content Development: Co-create state-of-the-art AI education frameworks and high-quality teaching resources.
Continuing Education & Educator Training: Deliver multi-tiered continuing education programmes for the public and industry practitioners, including intensive workshops, professional seminars, high-level forums and the “Train-the-Trainer” programme, to comprehensively enhance educators’ AI literacy.
Student Empowerment & International Exchange: Develop a diverse range of short courses, study tours, international exchange programmes and high-level AI competitions for youth and tertiary students.
Promotion & Ecosystem Expansion: Co-host international conferences, forums and industry events themed on AI education, to raise the global profile of flagship initiatives such as SUTD Design AI.
Role Allocation: Complementary Strengths for Effective Implementation
To ensure the steady progress and efficient delivery of all joint initiatives, both parties have defined their core roles within the cooperation framework:
ARAILL will act as the strategic coordination partner. Drawing on its extensive network and industry ecosystem, it will foster in-depth ties with primary, secondary and tertiary educational institutions, and fully support the organisation and execution of training sessions, study tours, competitions and other related activities.
SUTD will serve as the primary provider of academic expertise and core resources. It will deliver cutting-edge curriculum structures, teaching plans and top-tier academic content, and deploy distinguished professors, lecturers and academic specialists for teaching and mentoring. Eligible participants will receive official certificates and formal recognition issued by the university. SUTD will also oversee rigorous academic quality assurance and provide ongoing research support for all joint projects.
Future Outlook: Co-Creating a Global AI Education Ecosystem
During the signing ceremony, Mr. Fang Lv, Vice President of ARAILL, and Mr. John Leong, Chief Officer of Lifelong Learning and Innovation as well as Director of SUTD Academy of Research, expressed full confidence and positive expectations for this partnership.
Moving forward, ARAILL and SUTD will work hand in hand. Upholding rigorous academic standards and an innovative global vision, the two organisations will continue to drive the development of the global AI education ecosystem.
