In the afternoon of September 5, 2024, a five-member delegation including Chua Chee Lee, President of the Singapore Artificial Intelligence Education Association, and Fang Lü, Vice President, visited Huainan No.1 Middle School. Both parties had in-depth exchanges on how to further promote the application of artificial intelligence in empowering language education and explored possible cooperation models.

During the exchange, Mr. Fang Lü, the Vice President, introduced the relevant situation of the Singapore Artificial Intelligence Education Association. The association is led by Dr. Chua Chee Lee, who was the Chinese language tutor of Lee Kuan Yew, the founding Prime Minister of Singapore, as its President, and Mr. Fang Lü, CEO of Lingfei Technology, as its Vice President. The association is committed to empowering language education with artificial intelligence technology, riding the tide of artificial intelligence, and advancing the ark of language and culture. Dr. Chua Chee Lee, the President, introduced Singapore’s education, especially the empowerment of language education and curriculum design by artificial intelligence, and expressed his expectation for more in-depth exchanges and interactions with Huainan No.1 Middle School in the future.

Dr. Chua Chee Lee gave a special lecture to teachers and students on how to learn languages in the era of artificial intelligence. By recalling his experience of teaching Chinese to Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, Dr. Chua Chee Lee introduced Singapore’s explorations in language education and technology-enabled language learning, comprehensively reflecting that the development of information technology, from early Internet search and machine translation technologies to today’s large artificial intelligence language models, can enhance the effectiveness of language teaching and learning. In the lecture, Dr. Chua Chee Lee mentioned that the National Neuroscience Institute of Singapore, through fMRI brain research, confirmed that muscle tissue has a memory effect. When the same action is repeated many times, a certain conditioned reflex is formed, enabling quick responses without going through brain thinking. Muscles acquire memory slowly, and they also forget slowly. Therefore, language learning must involve repeated practice and frequent application to achieve good results. During the lecture, the students showed strong interest and high attention to artificial intelligence technology. Dr. Chua Chee Lee’s simple and in-depth speech benefited every student present.

As a long-established school, Huainan No. 1 Middle School has always been committed to educational innovation and reform, striving to build a distinctive model high school. Through this exchange with the Singapore Artificial Intelligence Education Association, the school will attach greater importance to the positive role of artificial intelligence in empowering language education and strive to create a more intelligent learning environment for students. At the same time, the school will also encourage teachers to actively explore the application of artificial intelligence technology in teaching, with a view to improving teaching effectiveness and cultivating students’ innovative thinking and practical abilities.

This visit by the Singapore Artificial Intelligence Education Association marks an important step for Huainan No. 1 Middle School in its process of educational internationalization. Through such international exchanges, the school hopes to introduce more advanced educational concepts and technologies to improve the quality and efficiency of education and teaching. This exchange activity has not only deepened the mutual understanding between the two parties but also laid a solid foundation for future cooperation. With the continuous development of artificial intelligence technology, its application in the field of education will become increasingly widespread, and the cooperation between Huainan No. 1 Middle School and the Singapore Artificial Intelligence Education Association will undoubtedly inject new vitality into the school’s educational reform and development.
