On the morning of May 9th, a 20-member delegation from Singapore’s Ministry of Education, Singapore Teachers’ Academy, and Singapore Association for Artificial Intelligence in Education visited Hefei Gaoxin Innovation Experimental Primary School for an exchange. Gao Yuanbiao, Deputy Director of the Education Development Center of Hefei High-tech Zone Social Development Bureau, and the person in charge of the Teaching and Research Office accompanied the visit. Chen Lianhua, Secretary of the Party Branch and Principal of Hefei Gaoxin Innovation Experimental Primary School Education Group, Vice Principals Zhu Linfang, Xu Jinfang, Ju Pinghuan, Yin Bin, and heads of relevant departments warmly received the visiting guests.
1.Artificial Intelligence Empowers Education
On behalf of the school, Chen Lianhua extended a warm welcome to the visiting Singapore education delegation. She led the group into the Herun Education Center to fully experience the group’s Herun culture and the effectiveness of artificial intelligence courses in empowering education.
In the artificial intelligence class, Yin Bin led the students to demonstrate to the guests an intelligent robot. This robot, developed through computer programming and manual construction using technologies such as image recognition, speech recognition, natural language processing, and methods like machine learning, is capable of listening, speaking, seeing, recognizing, understanding, and thinking. The robot, programmed on-site, cordially greeted the guests and introduced the campus, which won frequent praise from the Singapore education delegation. They admired the school for stimulating students’ creativity and the strong application abilities of innovative talents.
2.Smart Golf, New Digital Strength
Student representative Zhao Mingyou led the guests to the digital golf classroom, where children were swinging their clubs, having a perfect encounter with the little white ball. On-site, it was demonstrated that with the help of AI virtual scenes and based on data analysis, sports skills are accurately guided to promote all-round development. Student representative Sun Shuxin led everyone through the beautiful pine forest, where joyful pine forest music and the happy figures of children could be heard and seen from time to time. The five education scenarios such as the Pet Paradise, Pine Forest Kitchen, and Planting Paradise left a deep impression on the guests. The guests praised the students of Chuangshi Primary School for being lively and agile with high comprehensive literacy, and commended the school for earnestly implementing the principles of establishing morality and cultivating people, and promoting the all-round development of students in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education.
3.Smart Sports: Transforming Teaching
Upon arriving at the smart playground, Ju Pinghuan introduced to the inspection team the application of the school’s smart sports programs, such as smart rope skipping, 50-meter sprint, smart long jump, sit-and-reach, and sit-ups.
On-site, the application of various sports programs in an intelligent environment was demonstrated. Precise and personalized data analysis and evaluation have made physical education classes more “intelligent”, showcasing the innovative development of smart sports and empowering students’ healthy growth.
4.Intelligent reading nourishes the soul
Students Chen Ziling and Zhang Mingqiu from Class 4-7 demonstrated the use of the reading booth on campus to the guests on site. Smart reading enables children to read easily and freely through digital means, making campus reading as natural as breathing. Chinese teacher Bao Lei introduced to everyone the use of the reading platform in Chinese teaching. Daily reading helps students form the habit of reading; practice management helps consolidate classroom knowledge and improve students’ language sense; class management helps understand the reading situation of the whole class and provide targeted guidance. The poetic recitation on site was perfectly presented with the help of intelligent technology, which was surprising and admirable.
5.Smart Teaching: Reducing Burdens and Increasing Efficiency
Zhu Linfang introduced to the guests specific data on the school’s application of smart teaching, presenting the characteristics of “starting early, being widely applied, showing obvious innovation, and achieving many results”. On the path of advancing educational reform in depth, the school has empowered classrooms, solved problems, and innovated education through educational digitalization. The exploration project “Practical Exploration of Primary School ‘3+X’ Teaching Model in Smart Classroom Environment” won the first prize of Anhui Provincial Basic Education Teaching Achievements in 2022.
Upon arriving at the Academic Teaching and Research Center, Teacher Guo Ping collaborated with students from Class 6 (6) on a composition lesson titled “Exercise: Wishes” in a smart campus environment. Through the pre-class voting function, Teacher Guo understood the students’ learning situation using data. The students expressed their wishes from the three perspectives of individual, family, and society, truly realizing teaching based on learning. During the class, Teacher Guo guided the students to share their compositions, learn to evaluate the works from different aspects, establish confidence in writing, and stimulate interest in composition. Among them, the clever use of the “Intelligent Composition Review” function in Changyan Xiaoxue enabled precise comments and generated personalized analysis and guidance reports, promoting the classroom to reduce burdens and increase efficiency. After the class, Dr. Lin Meijun, Deputy Director of the Singapore Ministry of Education, and others had in-depth exchanges with teachers and students, fully affirming Teacher Guo’s high level of Chinese teaching.
Hefei High-tech Innovation Experimental Primary School, as a national smart school observation school, has achieved remarkable results in recent years by leveraging artificial intelligence to empower the school’s development. This visit by the Singapore education delegation is not only an international educational exchange and cooperation but also a cultural experience aimed at enhancing friendship.
